Project aims, research questions and deliverables

Overall aim: to develop a set of principles, resources and practices for inclusive development and implementation of AI in education in Vietnam.

1.To establish an interdisciplinary AI in education research and practice network across Vietnam and the UK with partnership universities and schools to enable long-term collaborations between the UK and Vietnam.

2.To pilot AI education technologies and pedagogies and to evaluate the experiences and perspectives of educators and learners from diverse geographic areas and different gender groups on the technologies and pedagogies.

3.To develop understandings, resources and practices between educators and researchers in education and computer sciences on an inclusive and sustainable development and implementation of AI in education.

4.To develop a roadmap and recommendations for policies, practices & research on AI in education in Vietnam.

5.To develop the capacities of researchers and educator to be future leaders on AI in education.

Research question:

What are the key pedagogical principles and considerations for effective implementation of AI tools for education from the perspectives of educators from rural and urban areas across Vietnam?

Sub questions:

  • How can AIEd tools be effectively introduced and implemented in schools in rural and urban area?
  • What are the social and education development needs and barriers to implementing AI powered tools for teaching and learning in schools in rural and urban area?
  • How can the needs and barriers be addressed in and through Vietnam digital transformation work over the next 5-10 years?

Deliverables:

  1. An AI in education network and 3 hubs in Hanoi, Vinh & Ho Chi Minh;
  2. Website & seminar series for knowledge sharing until 2029;
  3. Pilot projects at 6 schools in urban & rural areas across Hanoi, Vinh and Saigon to trial 3 bespoke AI tools with evaluation of usability, pedagogies, and feasibility of implementing similar tools;
  4. A workshop programme for teachers at the pilot schools to co-develop pedagogical practices;
  5. Resources in Vietnamese & English for educators and researchers on inclusive development and use of AIEd tools on project website;
  6. 4 seminars & a conference for knowledge exchange, sharing project outputs with researchers, educators & other experts in the field from Vietnam, southeast Asia & the UK;
  7. Recommendations for policies, practices & research and a roadmap on developing AI for education for rural & urban schools;
  8. Policy briefing for MOET & education university leaders;
  9. Project report to British Council;
  10. 2 peer reviewed articles and a conference paper.
