Research Seminar 4: Inclusive AI in Education in Vietnam: From Research to Practice and Impact
Our fourth research seminar, “Inclusive AI in Education in Vietnam: From Research to Practice and Impact” was held on 20 May 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The seminar featured presentations from three distinguished keynote speakers representing the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES), the Nottingham Trent University, the University of Edinburgh, who shared current research, evidence, and practices relating to the use of artificial intelligence in education.
A key highlight of the event was the roundtable discussion on “Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Teaching and Learning: Research, Practice, and Future Directions.” The session fostered engaging dialogue among keynote speakers, researchers, educators, and school leaders, exploring emerging opportunities, challenges, and future directions for the inclusive and effective integration of AI in teaching and learning.
Presentation 1: Artificial Intelligence Education Pilot Content Framework for Vietnamese General Education Students
This presentation was delivered by Mr Do Duc Lan, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES). The presentation focused on three key parts, including AI competency framework for general education students, AI education content pilot framework for general education students, and orientations for pilot implementation in general education schools.

Presentation 2: Demystifying AI-Risks and Opportunities that Support Education and Assessment Resources for Persons with Neurodevelopmental and Neurocognitive Impairments
This presentation, delivered by Professor David J. Brown, Director of the Computing and Informatics Research CentreNottingham Trent University, explores the role of AI in inclusive education, specifically for individuals with neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive impairments. The presentation addresses the risks, opportunities, and ethical necessities of using AI in these contexts. The take-home message for audience is that human centric design approaches drive explainability and trustworthy, unbiased, privacy preserving systems that create impact.

Presentation 3: AI in Secondary Schools: Developing Resources and Professional Learning for Teachers and with Teachers
The presentation was delivered by Dr Serdar Adbaci, an expert from the University of Edinburgh. Dr Serdar Adbaci presents a draft AI curriculum framework for Scotland, specifically designed to assist secondary school teachers in integrating technology into the classroom. At the heart of this initiative is a values-based approach that prioritises children’s rights and ethics, alongside the development of AI literacy and critical thinking skills.

Round table discussion
This round table discussion, focused on the topic "Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Teaching and Learning: Research, Practice, and Future Directions", brought together experts from four universities, project researchers, teachers/school leaders, and invited speakers. The discussion was conducted mainly in Vietnamese, with a small part delivered in English.
Research seminar 3: How AI Forms Bias and What Educators Can Do About Its
Our third search seminar ‘How AI Forms Bias and What Educators Can Do About Its’ was organised in 12 January 2026 with 22 educators and teachers from Vietnam and the UK.
Kieran Gilmurray, the keynote speaker of the seminar, is a a globally recognised authority on AI, digital transformation, and data-driven business. He is the author of three influential books, including the widely acclaimed Agentic AI and the Future of Work: How Intelligent Agents Will Redefine Roles, Skills, and Value. His work spans the MENA region, EMEA, the United States, and the UK and Ireland, where organisations regularly bring him in as a trusted advisor, keynote speaker, trainer and workshop leader.
The seminar had seven sections:
- Section 1: AIs Impacts (0:01 – 43:25)
- Section 2: What AI Bias Actually Is? (43:00 – 1:12:00)
- Section 3-6: How AIs Learns and Where Bias Enters? Real World Examples, Risks for Educators and Students, and Practical Steps to Reduce Bias (1:12:00 -1:46:56)
- Section 7: Interactive Discussion (1:47:00 – 1:52:30)
In this seminar, Kieran Gilmurray led an interactive discussion with educators and computer science academics from the UK and Vietnam on how AI forms bias and what educators can do about it.

Research seminar 2: “High School Teachers' Awareness and Practical Use of AI in Hanoi, Vietnam: Insights and Practice and Training”
As a part of our series research seminar, on 18 June 2025, we host the second seminar on "Awareness and Practical Use of AI in Hanoi, Vietnam: Insights and Practice and Training". The seminar keynote was led by Dr Kieu Phuong Thuy from the Faculty of Information and Technology, Hanoi National University of Education. During the presentation, Dr Thuy spoke about:
- Overview of AI in education
- Teachers’ AI awareness and practical use of AI in Hanoi
- Experiences and solutions in AI teacher training
After the keynote presentation, members of the project team and Dr Thuy led a panel discussion on the questions and issues raised by Dr Thuy and audience members.

Research seminar 1: “AI for inclusive education: perspectives on pedagogy development”
As part of our project, we host an international research seminar series. On 25th Feburary, we ran our first seminar on 'AI for inclusive education: perspectives on pedagogy development'. The seminar keynote was led by Dr Serdar Abaci (University of Ediburgh). During the keynote, Dr Abaci spoke about:
- Intersection of inclusive and digital pedagogy (before we talk about AI in education)
- Responsible use of AI in education and how this links to inclusion
- Framework(s) for AI literacy
- Project highlight: AI in Secondary Schools
