The 'inclusive use of AI in Education in Vietnam' project has launched at Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE) on 10th December.
The project, funded by the International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF), aims to support digital transformation in education in Vietnam using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over the next two years, the project team will work with eight high schools and teachers across Vietnam to carry out teacher development and pedagogical practice research on the use of AI. These include piloting AI technologies in education, evaluating the experiences of teachers from diverse geographic areas – helping researchers to develop an understanding of how to implement AI sustainably and responsibly. The research will inform the development of a set of principles, an array of resources and practices for the use of AI in teaching and learning.
At the launch event, project lead Dr Vanessa Cui led a presentation with all academic partners to introduce the team and our project plan. We then discussed our project work with academics from HNUE and educators from Hanoi.
We are thrilled to collaborate on this international, interdisciplinary project, and aim to use our research and education expertise to work with partners – learning more about the responsible use of AI for teachers. Through the collaboration between the six universities and eight schools, the project team will create a network that intends to grow the work on responsible use of AI in education in Vietnam and internationally. The work we plan to do during this project will produce critical insights on teachers' views and experiences with AI to inform next steps of policies and teacher development in this area. The pilot projects the researchers will co-design with teachers will be catalysts for future research and education development. We are following the principle recommendated by UNESCO (2019) to 'to involve education stakeholders at an early stage to shape AI technologies based on educators', learners' and education leaders' perspectives for sustainable development and implementation of AI'.
